Learn before buying

Name the result before the machine.

Use four separate questions when reading a material claim. A reference to one outcome does not establish another.

Name the stock and the result in the same brief

Two descriptions before a comparison

Stock identity: supplier designation, composition/additives, coating, grade and thickness. The plain swatch is a placeholder; its missing identity is not completed by the drawing.

Requested result: surface mark, recessed feature, removal of a named layer, or through-cut. The small surface stroke is just one example request, not an extra capability claim.

A comparison also needs matching conditions, method and quality criterion. One-pass counts alone do not establish speed or finish. The four conceptual outcome cross-sections on this page remain separate.

Read the current scoped material references.

Original illustrated worksheet, not a processed sample or operating recipe. Nothing is saved or transmitted by this figure. Print the existing project note and retain unknowns; no material authorization or independent test is implied.

Surface marking: A visible surface mark is the requested result; do not substitute a through-cut claim.
Surface marking — A visible surface mark is the requested result; do not substitute a through-cut claim.
Depth engraving: A recessed feature is the requested result; depth, tolerance and finish need their own evidence.

Coating removal: Removal of a known surface layer is the requested result; name the coating and the underlying stock.
Coating removal — Removal of a known surface layer is the requested result; name the coating and the underlying stock.
Cutting: Separation through the stock is the requested result; exact material and thickness matter.

A free research path

  1. Identify the actual stock. Record its supplier designation, composition, additives, coating, grade and thickness. For a composite, unknown adhesive or unknown coating, leave the unresolved fields visible rather than selecting a generic “wood” or “metal” result.
  2. Specify the result. Write whether you need a surface mark, recessed feature, layer removal or through-cut, then describe the finish or tolerance you need. A decorative mark and a separated part answer different questions.
  3. Read the exact evidence. Open a material reference, follow the original source and identify the machine configuration. Retain the material and conditions as stated. A one-pass claim alone does not establish speed, finish or repeatable production throughput.
  4. Resolve the gaps before choosing a setup. Request the current exact manual and material guidance from the manufacturer. Ask for evidence matching your stock and intended result. If it is unresolved, retain an unknown outcome; a different process, prepared part or external fabrication service is a separate option to investigate.

When two results can be compared

Check composition, coating, thickness, process, pass count, focus/lens, air assist, test method and quality criterion. An independent measurement remains distinct from a manufacturer claim. The pilot does not rank claimed maximum thickness as measured speed or overall quality.
