Start with the material and the result

Write down the actual stock, coating, grade, thickness and the result you need before narrowing a machine list. A surface mark, recessed feature, coating removal and through-cut are separate catalog processes. Unknown composition stays unresolved.

Three different outcome questions

A through-cut

A separation through the material, shown conceptually.

A surface mark

A changed surface; this picture establishes no depth or processing capability.

Depth engraving

A recess, shown without any depth, speed or quality claim.

Original explanatory cross-sections, not samples or operating instructions. Exact composition, coating, thickness and machine evidence are still required. Coating removal is a further distinct question.

Worked catalog question

The pilot contains manufacturer claims for LONGER basswood cutting and ComMarker metal marking. A broad material family and a similarly named power option do not make those claims interchangeable. Read the composition, thickness and conditions on each record.

Try it without buying

In the project chooser, select a material family and a desired process. Then record which composition or settings are still unknown. No match establishes suitability or operating permission.

Check your reasoning

A generic metal-marking statement does not prove a through-cut in a particular alloy. Keep both the process difference and the missing exact-material evidence visible.
